Hi-Tech Testing has extensive experience in the inspection of black liquor recovery boilers and possesses several unique technologies designed specifically for this application. By nature boilers are critical pieces of equipment with several unique failure mechanisms. Hi-Tech's expertise can provide the information needed to identify problem areas and prevent potential catastrophic failure. The following is a list of services Hi-Tech commonly provides to our Pulp & Paper clients.

Available Boiler Inspection Services

line
  • Ultrasonic Thickness Surveys - Hi-Tech uses its Boilermax© software and experienced technicians to gather large amounts of thickness data and quickly transform it into a comprehensive, colorized report designed to detect wear patterens or localized loss in tube wall thickness.
  • Magnetic Lift-Off (MLO) - For composite tubes, MLO is used to determine the remaining thickness of the protective layer of Stainless Steel. It is entered into the Boilermax program via a datalogger or manually to optimize detection of trouble spots.
  • Radiography - Conventional and Computed Radiography can be used for information purposes such as Stress-Assisted Corrosion Investigation or code compliance for new installations. Hi-Tech has technicians experienced in the specialized task of performing radiography during a boilers construction or during plant outages.
  • Visual Inspection (VT) - Visual examination is often used to detect mechanical damage or wear due to harsh service conditions experienced by certain boiler types. CWI/QC services can monitor repair or installation activities to ensure code compliance.
  • Liquid Penetrant - Liquid Penetrant is often used in the lower furnace of composite tube boilers as well as other areas, such as superheater ties or membrane welding to provide useful information regarding the condition of your equipment.
  • Near Drum Inspection - Hi-Tech utilizes it's Genisys near drum technology to examine this common trouble area in the generating section of boilers. The software provides rapid display of the data in several different formats to quickly and accurately determine the severity and location of any thinning detected in this critical zone. Hi-Tech is commonly sub-contracted by other testing labs to provide this particular service.
  • IRIS - Hi-Tech performs IRIS examinations of tubes where access can be gained to the ID surface of the tubes such as drums or headers. The IRIS system allows for accurate thickness measurement of generating tubes and other tubes not normally accessible to the outside surface. Typically the entire length of the tube can be examined unless extremely sharp bends or dirty surfaces compromise the examination.
  • Consulting - Hi-Tech has on staff personnel with over twenty-five years in power boiler inspection experience. Contact us today if you have questions regarding inspection methods, parameters or capabilities.
