This C-Scan represents a normal Mud Drum tube in good condition. The hard roll inside the tube sheet can be seen as the first light color band from the bottom. The soft roll is indicated by the second light color band from the bottom. The blue area represents the nominal tube wall. The darker blue area fading into the lighter blue area represents the eccentricity of the tube, with the darker blue area being the thicker part of the tube. This report demostrates the ability of the OmniView program to graphically display tube layout and any problem areas or individual tubes with thinning that may be found during the exam. On the spot analysis of each tube means problem areas can be identified immediately. No need to wait until the end of the job to begin preparation for plugging of damaged tubes.
When inspecting a Steam Drum, there is no need for plugging tubes in the mud drum nor does the boiler have to be flooded. The OmniScan system is an immersion system which uses only a small column of water to convey the sound from the focused transducer into the part being examined. The water is allowed to trickle down the tube to the mud drum. Tubes not accessible to other systems performing near drum examination are usually not a problem for OmniScan. Due to the design of the probe, only a very small dimension of clearance between the edge of the tube, and any internal brackets is necessary, thus allowing the inspection of tubes which have never been inspected by alternative systems.
